Deplorables Destroyed: Massive Pro-Trump Facebook Group Sold To Click Farm

Published

on

Perhaps the most successful conservative pro-Trump Facebook site to emerge from the 2016 election was the half million-member page called “The Deplorables”. It was destroyed last week by the actions of one of its founders. Dan Schwartz, a founder and chief administrator of the site, secretly sold it to Macedonian ‘shit posters,’ in Mr. Schwartz’s words, for the relative pittance of $15,000.

Ironically, at the top of The Deplorables page, there is a warning about not posting ‘fake news’ from Macedonian scammers, as happened frequently during the 2016 election cycle. Now the entire page is ‘owned’ by fake news purveyors, who no longer allow members to post articles.

“The Deplorables,” whose membership has consistently hovered around 460,000, sprang up in the aftermath of Hillary Clinton’s remark to an LGBT audience, on September 9th, 2016, that half of Trump voters were “a basket of deplorables.”

At a barbeque for a handful of Trump supporters on September 11, 2016, the idea for a Facebook page with that name was born. Dan Schwartz, an unemployed hearing aid designer, set it up the following week. Within days there were 100K members. By election day there were an unheard of 450,000 active participants on the site.

In the succeeding 18 months, the site has been an organic community of half a million authentic, conservative members, who supported their favorite news sites, magazines and other think tanks by posting links to share with fellow members. An article could get 20,000 likes in two days – creating value for writers and websites.

In a Facebook messenger post to fellow founders on Sunday, Mr. Schwartz boasted about his action: “Fellow Deplorables, I have some great news: I sold The Deplorables, and the $15 grand is in the bank! As Donald Trump would say, “you don’t fall in love with an asset.” … Basically the buyer is a Macedonian shitposter from Veles, who set the group to admin-only posting; and he removed the other admins. I left the group, and I recommend that you leave, too.”

In a series of online conversations, the original members of the group expressed dismay that Mr. Schwartz had betrayed the trust of the 460,000 current members by handing over their information on Facebook to Eastern European professional scammers – thereby turning the site into the Fake News that liberals have long alleged it to be and conservatives have long railed against.

The action has been reported to Facebook through online channels, but it is not yet known how the company will respond. How this instance of an admin ‘selling’ a FB page to Eastern European scammers, of the sort who distort political news, is yet unknown. Mr. Schwartz noted, in multiple texts, that he had gotten away with ‘selling the Brooklyn Bridge.’

Members of the group were astounded that Schwartz sold the asset for a fraction of its estimated value. Consultants have estimated that the group information is worth a minimum of fifty cents per name.

“Desperation begets perfidy,” said one angry founding member.

Al Gore’s Running Mate Tells Democrat Voters to Reject Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

The honeymoon phase is over.

A former Senator is cautioning voters against voting for socialist candidate for U.S. Congress Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

“Ocasio-Cortez’s victory ‘seems likely to hurt Congress, America and the Democratic Party,” wrote Joe Lieberman, former Independent Senator from Connecticut in a Wall Street Journal op-ed.

He urged Democrats to vote for incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley, whose name will still appear on the voting ballot in November though he lost the primary election.

“Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is a proud member of the Democratic Socialists of America, whose platform, like hers, is more Socialist than Democratic,” Lieberman wrote. “Her dreams of new federal spending would bankrupt the country or require very large tax increases, including on the working class.”

Lieberman cited Ocasio-Cortez’s “reflexive criticism of one of America’s great democratic allies (Israel),” as another reason to dump the 28-year-old candidate.

Ocasio-Cortez made a major gaff in an interview with PBS over the weekend.

Big League Politics reported:

“I also think that what people are starting to see in the occupation of Palestine is just an increasing crisis of humanitarian condition,” said Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. “And that, to me, is just where I tend to come from on this issue.”

Kudos to the interviewer, who continued to push regarding Ocasio-Cortez’s use of the term “occupation of Palestine,” one rarely used outside of small circles of white liberals on college campuses.

“Oh, um… I think what I meant is, like, the settlements that are increasing in some of these areas, in places where, um, Palestinians are experiencing, um, difficulty and access to their housing and homes,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

BLP Passage Ends.

“If Democrats are to regain a majority, it will be by winning swing districts with sensible, mainstream candidates,” Lieberman wrote.

The political left seems to be over the honeymoon phase of Ocasio-Cortez’s meteoric rise, perhaps realizing that moving towards the center instead of the fringes is the better strategy. Even House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) distanced the party from Ocasio-Cortez.

“They made a choice in one district,” she said. “So let’s not get yourself carried away as an expert on demographics and the rest of that within the caucus or outside the caucus. We have an array of genders, generations, geography, and opinion in our caucus and we are very proud of that. The fact that in a very progressive district in New York it went more progressive—Joe Crowley is a progressive, but more to the left than Joe Crowley, is about that district. It is not to be viewed as something that stands for everything else.”

The Hill reported that several current Democrats in Congress are unhappy with Ocasio-Cortez for bashing Crowley on Twitter after he committed to endorsing her.

“She’s carrying on and she ain’t gonna make friends that way,” said Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ). “Joe conceded, wished her well, said he would support her … so she doesn’t know what the hell she’s talking about.” “She’s not asking my advice, [but] I would do it differently, rather than make enemies of people.”
