Deranged Democrat Congressman Jamaal Bowman Pulls Fire Alarm in House Office Building

On September 30, 2023, New York Congressman Jamaal Bowman pulled a fire alarm in the House Cannon office. The timing of this incident was rather curious. It came when House Democrats were attempting to delay a vote on a sensitive spending bill.

Bowman’s political stunt compelled the entire House to evacuate the building. In addition, Capitol Police and the House Administration Committee conducted an investigation in response to this incident.

The aforementioned spending bill would have kept the federal government open for an additional 45 days. Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy rolled out the bill a few beforehand. Upon its introduction, Democrats hurried to read and analyze the bill in an effort to determine whether they would end up voting for this bill.

Later on that day, this spending bill was approved by a 335 to 91 vote margin. In a statement that was published on the night of September 30, Bowman claimed that he did not pull the alarm to delay the vote. That’s been the working theory that Republicans have offered up to explain the rationale behind this incident.

Bowman asserted that as he was sprinting to the Capitol to vote on legislation, he reached a door in the Cannon building that he could not allegedly open.

I am embarrassed to admit that I activated the fire alarm, mistakenly thinking it would open the door. I regret this and sincerely apologize for any confusion this caused,” Bowman stated. “But I want to be very clear: this was not me, in any way, trying to delay any vote. It was the exact opposite — I was trying urgently to get to a vote.

Bowman continued by noting that he had held a meeting with the sergeant-at-arms and Capitol Police in the aftermath of the incident. Both of these entities had requested  that Bowman explain what had occurred.

The House Administration Committee started an inquiry on this incident, according to its chairman, Wisconsin Congressman Bryan Steil. The Republican congressman revealed this in a statement. Per Capitol Police,  the building was briefly evacuated. “An investigation into what happened and why continues,”  police spokesman Paul Starks stated.

Republicans quickly connected the alarm to the vote on the spending bill. At a news conference following the passage of the spending measure, McCarthy criticized Bowman, hinting that he pulled the alarm in an attempt to halt the proceedings. “When we found that an individual elected to Congress would pull a fire alarm, that’s a new low,” he stated.

New York Congressman Nicole Malliotakis drafted a motion to kick out Bowman from the House, her office announced.

“This is the United States Congress, not a New York City high school,” Malliotakis stated on X. “To pull the fire alarm to disrupt proceedings when we are trying to draft legislation to AVERT A SHUTDOWN is pathetic.”

Elected officials are glorified children at this point. Instead of offering constructive solutions to the existential crises of our times, these politicians prefer to pull off ridiculous antics to build clout on social media and consolidate their anti-freedom power base. That’s the harsh reality of politics in the contemporary USA.
