Disgraced Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy Urged Trump To Water Down His Re-Election Message
Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy recently revealed at The Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council Summit that he called on former President Donald Trump to abandon a re-election message of revenge.
“If you want to become president, it has to be about rebuilding, restoring and renewing America,” the California Republican said on December 12, 2023, highlighting his advice to the former president. “If it’s revenge, you won’t get the opportunity.”
McCarthy endorsed Trump’s re-election bid. He even hinted that the Republican Party has been effectively leaderless.
“The last two presidential elections were not won by America voting for [an aspiration of] what they wanted their president to be—it was voting against somebody,” McCarthy declared. When an election is decided by individuals voting against candidates, “you’re kind of leaderless in a way,” he declared.
Early in December, McCarthy announced his retirement from Congress. Back in October, McCarthy was booted from his previous role as House Speaker for his perceived inaction on a host of issues that grassroots have long clamored for. He would be subsequently replaced by Louisiana Congressman Mike Johnson as House Speaker.
Let’s face it, McCarthy represents the Chamber of Commerce wing of the Republican Party that slavishly supports the US’s never-ending wars and pro-corporate policies such as mass migration and tax cuts for mega-corporations. Like much of his establishment ilk, McCarthy has no interest in stirring the pot.
Republicans like McCarthy should ultimately be purged from the party if it wants to move forward in a genuinely nationalist direction. Thankfully, McCarthy has hanged up his political gloves. Hopefully, more establishment hacks in the GOP follow in his footsteps.
