Disgraced Secretary of State Antony Blinken Heads to Middle East As Tensions Accelerate
United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken went to the Middle East again on late January 4, 2024. This marked the fourth trip to the region and is the most recent escalation in the Israeli-Palestinian war.
On his first visit to foreign nations in 2024, Blinken visited Israel, the West Bank, Turkey, Greece, Jordan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
This visit came during a time when the Israeli-Palestinian conflict could potentially transform into a regional war. On January 2, Israel assassinated a leading Hamas official in Lebanon. Similarly, on January 3, a vicious terrorist attack perpetrated by ISIS was launched against Iran.
Per Miller, Blinken stressed his appeal to expedite the delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza, while also talking about the heated issue of post-war management of the Gaza Strip, which experts argue is one of the most heated controversies Israel and the US have butted heads over.
The US and Israel have come into disagreement about tactics and strategies used to prosecute this war, which some argue Blinken’s diplomatic mission would allegedly address.
Blinken is a geopolitical lightweight who is not being taken seriously on the world stage. How can a political hack like Blinken yammer on about the value of human rights when the US government is co-signing Israel’s ethnic cleansing campaign in Gaza?
At some point, basic decency needs to prevail in the US’s conduct of foreign affairs. If not, the US could potentially stare down the barrel of a blowback situation that could draw it into another protracted military conflict.
