Donald Trump Calls for Cutting the Justice Department’s and FBI’s Funding

On April 5, 2023, former United States President Donald Trump urged Republican elected officials in Congress to cut the budget for both the Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Trump’s call for defunding these government agencies came a day after he plead guilty in New York to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. The former president believes defunding these two law enforcement agencies would cause them to “come to their senses.”

“REPUBLICANS IN CONGRESS SHOULD DEFUND THE DOJ AND FBI UNTIL THEY COME TO THEIR SENSES,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump is currently facing two criminal investigations. One of them is connected to his attempt to contest the 2020 presidential election and allegedly facilitate the January 6 storming of the Capitol.

The other investigation is connected to his alleged mishandling of classified records while he was president.

Unelected bureaucracies must face severe consequences for the institutional abuse they facilitate. One can only hope that reform-minded politicians step up to the plate and offer legitimate reforms to set things straight i.e. defund unconstitutional agencies.

If not, our mighty republic is not long for this world.
