Donald Trump Endorses Kari Lake for Governor of Arizona

President Donald Trump endorsed Kari Lake for the Governor of Arizona on Tuesday, backing the outsider candidate in what may prove the defining factor of the Republican primary.

Trump’s statement endorsing Lake touted her pro-border security and tough-on-crime policies, support for election integrity policies, and opposition to woke dogma in schools.

President Trump also knocked Governor Doug Ducey, who he’s accused of standing in the way of election integrity measures in Arizona.

Lake has led anti-mask and pro-freedom rallies in Arizona. She was a news anchor for one of a widely-viewed broadcast network since the mid-1990’s before announcing her candidacy, benefitting from considerable name ID among the people of Arizona. Lake is running against Matt Salmon, a former Republican Congressman, in the GOP primary for governor. Ducey is termed out.

On her website, Lake stakes out detailed positions on policies impacting Arizona such as education, water policy, small business, and homelessness, showing herself to be more than a made-for-TV candidate.

The 2022 midterms may present an opportunity for Republicans to make a comeback in Arizona, with widespread dissatisfaction in the purple state regarding President Joe Biden’s job performance and ‘America Last’ border and immigration policy.

The state is expected to have competitive elections for Governor and US Senator, with Democrat Mark Kelly thought to be vulnerable to a challenge after closely winning a 2020 senatorial election.

Populist Republican and US Senate candidate Blake Masters has staked out a position as a favorite of America First advocates, with many Republicans close to the President urging him to consider endorsing the businessman and Peter Thiel associate.
