Donations to the Republican Party are Falling

Donations to the Republican Party are falling as concerns about the party’s financial status increase. The Republican National Committee revealed that it had $9.1 million in cash as of October 30, 2023. This figure is the lowest cash amount on hand for the RNC in any Federal Election Commission report since February 2015.

For comparison, at the same juncture in the 2016 election cycle, the RNC had $20 million on hand. The party had roughly $61 million in 2019 when Trump was still president. The Democratic National Committee reported having $17.7 million of cash on hand as of October 30.

“It’s a revenue problem,” Tennessee RNC member Oscar Brock remarked. “We’re going through the same efforts we always go through to raise money: the same donor meetings, retreats, digital advertising, direct mail. But the return is much lower this year. If you know the answer, I’d love to know it. The staff has managed to tighten down on expenses to keep the party from going into the red.”

Several Republicans insiders declared that donors have not made as many large donations to the RNC in recent years, and the party’s small-dollar program has also taken a hit. Several donors aren’t donating to the RNC because they believe that such contributions will help Trump in his re-election bid, which they have no desire to do so. Others have indicated they would rather wait to donate until 2024. Several donors have become disillusioned with the GOP’s leadership.

The party slashed certain expenditures in 2023 after projected money did not come in.

People can speculate all they want about the GOP’s dismal financial status. The fact is that this institution is moribund, and it’s mostly being propped up by Donald Trump’s America First movement. Without Trump in the mix, the GOP is destined for irrelevancy.

If people are going to donate to a political entity, it has to be Donald Trump and his movement. Simply put, this is the only political movement that’s capable of  bringing about the political change America needs in these troubling times.
