El Salvador Plans on Setting Up “Bitcoin Embassy” in Texas
El Salvador plans to set up a “Bitcoin Embassy” in the United States per a report by Finance Magnates. The Central American country gained international attention back in September 2021 when it adopted Bitcoin as a legal tender, becoming the first country in the world to do so.
The country wants to open the office in Texas, a state that has built a strong reputation for being friendly to Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
Milena Mayorga, El Salvador’s Ambassador to the US, announced the move on February 14, 2023 via Twitter. Mayorga stated that the country talked about “expanding commercial and economic projects” in its meeting with Joe Esparzam, the Assistant Secretary of the Government of Texas.
Back in May 2021, the Texas State Senate passed a crypto bill that aimed to set up a legal framework for Bitcoin investments in the state. Texas Governor Greg Abbott later signed the bill.
Texas is shaping up to be one of the last sanctuaries for freedom on the planet. While El Salvador is far from a free, stable country, under the leadership of President Nayib Bukele, the country has definitely stirred the pot.
Other countries should definitely take note and follow in El Salvador’s footsteps so that they can take part in the cryptocurrency revolution that is slowly taking over the world.
