EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell Says F-16s Will be Supplied to Ukraine Soon

In a statement made on May 22, 2023, European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell announced that the European Union is delighted with the G7’s decision to lay the groundwork for sending F-16 supplies to Ukraine. He also expects that it will send the fighter jets soon.

Once he arrived at an EU Foreign Ministers’ meeting, Borrell praised the delivery of F-16s as “a good idea.” He also noted that pilots had already started training on the F-16s. “I think the first thing to do is to proceed with pilot training, in the hope that soon we will be able to supply Ukraine with this type of weapon,” he continued.

Per Borrell, the EU foreign ministers will discuss a new round of the European Peace Facility (EPF) to supply additional funding for Ukraine later on May 22 .

On May 21, US President Joe Biden announced during a news conference on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Hiroshima that the US and its allies will begin training Ukrainian pilots to use fighter aircraft, which includes F-16s.

White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan previously said that the United States and its allies would talk about the list of countries that could potentially send F-16s to Ukraine in the next few months. Per the Biden regime, the fighter planes were not on the Collective West’s list of priorities for military aid to launch a Ukrainian counteroffensive.

Supplying F-16s is just another way of unnecessarily escalating tensions in Ukraine. Russia has clear escalatory dominance in this conflict theater. By introducing further forms of military aid, more suffering will continue in Ukraine as Russia is compelled to pursue more maximalist aims in its military endeavor.

The first step in bringing about peace in Ukraine is by halting military aid to it and getting all concerned parties to reach a negotiated settlement.
