Former Trump Aide Believes Wall Street Elites Are Working in The Shadows To Derail MAGA Agenda
Peter Navarro, the trade adviser for former President Donald Trump, believes that Wall Street oligarchs and former government officials worked to derail Trump’s agenda during his presidency (2016-2020). In an interview on Semafor published on May 21, 2024, Navarro believes that there are nefarious forces in the shadows that are working to derail his agenda should he return to the presidency.
Navarro is currently in federal prison after receiving a 4-month prison sentence in January. On top of that, he has been forced to pay
$9,500 for being in contempt of Congress after refusing to comply with a January 6 congressional subpoena. Navarro informed Semafor via email correspondence sent from the prison’s law library, that several Wall Street elites and administration officials are working to derail the Trump’s trade proposals.
“I’m sure if Jamie raises $100 million for Trump 2024 and doesn’t hedge his Biden bet, there may be an ambassadorship somewhere in Asia where JPMorgan helped offshore millions of American jobs,” Navarro said to Semafor responding to a question about whether people such as JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon could play key roles in a second Trump administration. “Frankly, [Blackstone CEO] Steve Schwarzman’s unforgiveable alleged unregistered foreign lobbyist activities in weakening the China trade deal has made it difficult for those of us in Trump World to trust that Wall Street denizens like Dimon, [Citadel CEO] Ken Griffin, and Schwarzman will ever represent Main Street.”
Navarro was particularly critical of Trump’s former National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn and his former Secretary of the Treasury Steve Mnuchin for allegedly subverting Trump’s America First agenda during his presidency.
“Gary Cohn did everything he could to block Trump’s trade agenda, particularly steel and aluminum tariffs. When [former Commerce Secretary] Wilbur Ross and I finally outmaneuvered him, he quit in a huff — good riddance,” Navarro stated. “Mnuchin did everything he could as well to stop or soften Trump’s trade agenda and regularly clashed with Ross, Lighthizer, and myself. Together, Cohn and Mnuchin prove, as I wrote in my Taking Back Trump’s America book, that Bad Personnel is both Bad Policy and Bad Politics.”
Indeed, Navarro is on to something here. There are many nefarious forces trying to derail Trump and his agenda — in the past, present, and future. Most people only view politics from the lens of the television, but don’t appreciate the degree of subversion taking place behind the scenes. It’s what happens in the shadows that ultimately shapes decisive political outcomes.
If the wrong people are in the shadows, expect all manner of perfidy to take place.
