Gillum Campaign in Disarray, Firing Field Staffer After Undercover Exposé
A Florida gubernatorial candidate has terminated a staffer who was caught in an undercover video sting saying that none of the candidate’s positions are tenable, calling them “fairy tales.”
“When I became aware of his comments, um, we gave instruction to immediately sever ties with him as a vendor,” Andrew Gillum said. “I find his comments deeply regrettable.”
Wednesday, Project Veritas, run by journalistic icon James O’Keefe, released surreptitiously recorded video of Gillum staffer Omar Smith calling Florida a “f***** up state,” and a “cracker state.” He also described Gillum’s campaign promises as “fairy tales,” adding that one of Gillum’s campaign strategies is to “appeal to white guilt.”
“Fairy tales in the modern day being with ‘once I am elected,” Smith said. “Okay? So let’s go back to Mr. Gillum’s platform. Raise the corporate tax rate in Florida from seven to 11 percent. That will never happen. Raise teacher’s pay to $50,000. That will never happen.”
“Give me another position,” he said. “Medicare for all. That will never happen.”
