Grand Jury Summons Witnesses as Andrew McCabe Investigation Intensifies

A grand jury charged with looking into whether former deputy director of FBI Andrew G. McCabe lied to investigators has summoned at least one witness, showing that the investigation is intensifying.

“The presence of the grand jury shows prosecutors are treating the matter seriously, locking in the accounts of witnesses who might later have to testify at a trial,” according to Washington Post. “But such panels are sometimes used only as investigative tools, and it remains unclear if McCabe will ultimately be charged.”

McCabe briefly headed the FBI after James B. Comey was fired last year.

Justice Department Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz, concluded in a June report that McCabe lied at least four times – three of them under oath. The report also said that he approved a media disclosure to advance his personal interests.

Attorney General Jefferson B. Sessions fired McCabe in March, only 24 hours before he was set to retire, costing him his full pension.

President Donald J. Trump has often berated McCabe on social media, deservingly so.

“DOJ just issued the McCabe report – which is a total disaster. He LIED! LIED! LIED! McCabe was totally controlled by Comey – McCabe is Comey!! No collusion, all made up by this den of thieves and lowlifes!” he said in April.

“The Fake News is beside themselves that McCabe was caught, called out and fired. How many hundreds of thousands of dollars was given to wife’s campaign by Crooked H friend, Terry M, who was also under investigation? How many lies? How many leaks? Comey knew it all, and much more!” he said in March.

It looks as if Trump is a step closer to bing proven correct (again) in his assertions that McCabe leaked to the press and lied about it.
