Guns Continue Flying Off the Shelves with 21 Million Sold in 2020
AWR Hawkins of Breitbart News reported that as of late December Americans bought roughly 21 million firearms in 2020.
This represented a 73 percent increase in the numbers of guns sold since 2019.
The Wuhan virus pandemic, the economic damage caused by the lockdowns, and civil unrest unleashed by the Left played major roles in Americans buying record numbers of firearms.
Some states such as Texas have witnessed record sales among certain demographics traditionally not associated with gun ownership. According to a report by the Dallas Morning News, the University of Texas at Tyler released a poll that was conducted from late August to early September which demonstrated that 51% of first-time gun buyers in Texas favored Democrat President Joe Biden. These findings are in line with Gun culture 2.0, a new development where gun culture has shifted from recreational use to matters of personal defense. One feature of this trend is how “marginal groups” such as LGBTQ people, non-whites, progressives, and women are beginning to buy firearms for the first time.
November 2020 represented the 11th consecutive month of record background checks, which is generally an accurate proxy for gun gales. According to FBI numbers, 3,626,335 National Instant Criminal Background System (NICS) checks were conducted in November 2020. This is the highest number of checks carried out for a November in NICS’s history.
Hawkins observed that “This same scenario was true of January 2020, which witnessed more NICS checks than any January on record, and February 2020, which witnessed more NICS than any February on record, and so on, all the way through November.”
American gun culture is very strong and won’t go away because some leftist busybody is upset with the concept of gun ownership. Regardless, the Left will have a major fight on their hands if they try to mess with law-abiding Americans’ right to self-defense.
