Gun Owners of America Condemns the United States Senate’s Failure to Block the ATF’s Pistol Brace Regulation

On June 22, 2023, the United States Senate failed to block the Biden Pistol Brace Regulation under the purview of Congressional Review Act. The final vote was 50-49 and took place on largely partisan lines.

In a press release put forward by Gun Owners of America, Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer disseminated disinformation about pistol braced firearms by asserting that they turn pistols into machineguns.

This rule, which went into effect  on June 1st, banned the possession of unregistered but previously legally owned pistols equipped with attached stabilizing braces. Individuals found in possession of an unregistered braced pistol can face felony charges that could carry a maximum ten years prison sentence. The only way they could avoid such sentences is if they’re covered by one of five federal court injunctions, such as Texas & GOA v. ATF. Researchers project that roughly 40,000,000 braces are currently in circulation.

Erich Pratt, GOA’s Senior Vice President, published the following statement:

It’s incredibly disappointing that, despite an outpouring of grassroots opposition to the rule, the Senate concurred with President Biden and voted to make their constituents felons. Gun Owners of America will continue to fight back in the Courts, where we have already seen some strong success. The fight will go on.

Aidan Johnston, GOA’s Director of Federal Affairs, continued:

It’s truly outrageous that a rule from the ATF can ban 40 million guns when the same proposal, if originating from Congress, could never pass the same test. Instead, Senators took the easy way out and chose to rubber stamp this administration’s unconstitutional move to criminalize owning a piece of plastic.

In a lawsuit that Gun Owners of America and the State of Texas put forward, a federal judge had previously issued an injunction against the rule from being enforced against members of GOA and State of Texas employees. The case is still going on.

Nevertheless, GOA can always be counted on to continue the fight against Gun Control Inc. They’re the most experienced no compromise gun lobby in the US and they have the iron will to confront the gun controllers wherever possible. Hopefully, more right-wing organizations follow in their footsteps.
