Harvard Goes Through Civil Rights Investigation for Alleged Cases Of Anti-Semitism

The Department of Education Office for Civil Rights recently added Harvard University to a burgeoning list of schools that it is being investigated for alleged violations of Title VI with respect to alleged cases of anti-Semitism on campus in the aftermath of the October 7 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel.
Fox News acquired a letter from the chief attorney for the Office of Civil Rights Boston office which highlighted that the department will be launching an investigation to determine whether Harvard “failed to respond to alleged harassment of students based on their national origin (shared Jewish ancestry and/or Israeli) in a manner consistent with the requirements of Title VI.”
On top of that, the letter was reportedly addressed to a former Harvard student who submitted a complaint against the university after a Jewish student was allegedly harassed during an anti-Israel protest.
Title VI ostensibly “prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national origin in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance.”
On November 16, 2023, the department announced seven investigations, which included Lafayette College, Cornell University, Columbia University, Wellesley College, University of Pennsylvania, The Cooper Union, and Kansas’ Maize Unified School District. Five of these investigations emerged from allegations of incidents of anti-Semitism, while two others emerged from allegations of Islamophobia, according to a report by Politico.
The department announced a similar set of investigations on November 21 against both The University of Tampa and Florida’s Hillsborough County school district.
These investigations are a total farce. To be sure there’s likely nasty comments coming from pro-Palestinian protesters. But even the Israeli side has its fair share of knuckleheads who likely use inflammatory speech to dehumanize Palestinians.
Nevertheless, both sides should be allowed to talk trash because that’s their First Amendment right. On the other hand, the Feds should not be wasting any resources trying to conduct investigations on so-called hate speech and other fabricated hate crimes. When the southern border is collapsing and crime is sweeping across cities nationwide, the last thing the Feds should be doing is wasting resources on policing peaceful free speech.
