House Passes Amendments to Prohibit Transgender Procedures in Military and Scrap Abortion Travel Policy

On July 13, 2023, conservatives in the United States were able to successfully tack on several amendments to a defense bill, which effectively resulted in the repeal of the Department of Defense’s (DOD’s) abortion travel policy, the prohibition on DOD health care programs from providing gender transition procedures, and the gutting of several of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs.
The defense bill, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), totaled $886.3 and featured 370 proposed amendments.
Texas Congressman Ronny Jackson has been working to repeal a DOD policy that compensates service members for the expenses they incur while traveling to obtain an abortion from a state where the procedure is restricted to a state where it is allowed.
Jackson argued that the policy was implemented by the Biden regime in October 2022 “to sidestep” the US Supreme Court’s June 2022 decision, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, that ended in the repeal of Roe v. Wade to “not only expand abortion access but also leave American taxpayers on the hook to subsidize abortion services.”
Other adopted amendments are measures prohibiting the DOD’s health care program from “furnishing sex reassignment surgeries and gender hormone treatments for transgender individuals” and from providing gender transition procedures via a program catered towards special-needs family members.
Proposed “culture war” amendments also addressed remaining facets of critical race theory (CRT) and DEI that weren’t eliminated in provisions already tacked on to the proposed NDAA adopted by the House Armed Services Committee.
These include amendments to get rid of DOD DEI offices and programs and ban funding for “diversity officers,” to defunding programs that advance “the idea that any race is inherently superior or inferior to any other race, color, or national origin,” and support “certain race-based concepts.”
This is a good first step in preventing cultural leftism from fully seeping into the US’s taxpayer funded institutions such as the military. Nevertheless, the military not only has to be purged of cultural leftism but it should downsized altogether.
We ultimately need a defense sector that’s not only free of the woke mind virus but also one that’s solely focused on national defense and not empire building. The current military makeup is something that the Founding Fathers would be 100% repulsed by. Let’s hope the future generation of American First nationalists get into power and fully implement such policies.
