Immigration Patriot Group Calls on Texas Governor Greg Abbott to Implement E-Verify to Halt Illegal Immigration

Immigration patriots in Texas are calling on Texas Governor Greg Abbott to put out a plan to clamp down on illegal immigration. The plan that the group in question, Texans for Strong Borders, is pushing for  mirrors a proposal that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently rolled out.

Breitbart News previously reported on DeSantis’ legislative package that consists of the following:

  • Increasing criminal penalties for human smugglers
  • Mandating E-Verify across the state for all employers
  • Prohibiting counties from issuing driver’s licenses to illegal aliens
  • Banning out-of-state waiver for illegal aliens
  • Making it a felony for illegal aliens to use false identities to gain employment

Chris Russo, the founder and President of Texans for Strong Borders PAC, is currently pushing Abbott to pursue similar measures.

“We applaud Governor DeSantis for taking the lead and proposing impactful reforms that seek to turn off the magnets that draw illegal aliens to cross our borders and that keep them here,” Russo said in a statement.

“Expanding E-Verify and prohibiting in-state tuition for illegal aliens are two of our top three legislative priorities, and we hope that Governor DeSantis’ plan will put pressure on the Texas legislature to act,” he added.

In Texas’ case, E-Verify is not mandated for all employers in Texas unless they are contracting with the state. In addition, Russo wants Texas to prohibit in-state tuition for illegal aliens:

We applaud Governor DeSantis for taking the lead and proposing impactful reforms that seek to turn off the magnets that draw illegal aliens to cross our borders and that keep them here. Expanding E-Verify and prohibiting in-state tuition for illegal aliens are two of our top three legislative priorities, and we hope that Governor DeSantis’ plan will put pressure on the Texas legislature to act.

Texas Republican Party Chairman Matt Rinaldi said to Breitbart News that the state’s border with Mexico “is flooded with illegal aliens who are then rewarded with good U.S. jobs that line the pockets of Mexican drug cartels.”

“Mandating E-Verify and other enforcement measures remove the reward for illegal aliens to cross the border,” Rinaldi added. “We applaud Gov. DeSantis for once again leading the charge on this critical issue.”

Terrell County Sheriff Thad Cleveland, observed that in his 12 years working as a Border Patrol agent and currently as sheriff has made it clear that “illegal aliens that cross through Terrell County are entering our country primarily for economic reasons.”

Cleveland stated that heavy fines on employers hiring illegal aliens are desperately needed.

“Until we pass a law that truly impacts those hiring illegal aliens, we will continue to have the steady flow of illegal aliens attempting to cross our borders illegally,” Cleveland said.

Governor Greg Abbott talks a big game about restricting immigration, but his administration can still do a lot more to halt the current illegal alien Zerg Rush. The Biden regime clearly doesn’t care about protecting the border, so red states will have to pick up the slack and forge their own immigration policies.

Texans for Strong Borders and other organizations will have to continue dialing up the pressure on Abbott, who has at least shown his receptiveness to grassroots action in the past on issues such as the Second Amendment, to get him to pass serious immigration restriction measures. Republican politicians will simply not pass controversial legislation on their volition. They’ll plenty of external pressure from the grassroots.
