James Bond Books Had “Racist” References Taken Out
Ian Fleming’s world-renowned James Bond novels are set to be re-written thanks to woke reads. Per a Telegraph report, Bond novels will be under review by sensitive readers ahead of the reissue of these novels in April — the month that is the 70th anniversary of the release of “Casino Royale.”
Each Bond book will feature the disclaimer, “This book was written at a time when terms and attitudes which might be considered offensive by modern readers were commonplace. A number of updates have been made in this edition, while keeping as close as possible to the original text and the period in which it is set,” The Telegraph report stated.
Fleming’s Bond novels were published from 1951 and 1966. One “offensive” term for black people that was in Fleming’s novel was almost completely taken out and replaced with “Black person” or “Black man.” In other cases, the references were subject to edits.
In “Live and Let Die” (1954), Bond opined that Africans working in the gold and diamond sectors as “pretty law-abiding chaps I should have thought, except when they’ve drunk too much” was changed to “pretty law-abiding chaps I should have thought.”
Another scene that took place in the book, during a strip tease at a Harlem nightclub, was initially worded as “Bond could hear the audience panting and grunting like pigs at the trough. He felt his own hands gripping the tablecloth. His mouth was dry.” This segment was changed to “Bond could sense the electric tension in the room.” A part of the book describing characters’ dialogue as “straight Harlem-Deep South with a lot of New York thrown in,” was removed.
Some of the books, which includes “Thunderball” (1961), “Quantum of Solace” (1960) and “Goldfinger” (1959), had certain ethnicities take out. Fleming gave the green light to the edits to the American edition of “Live and Let Die.” Fleming died in 1964 due to heart complications.
Ian Fleming Publications said to The Telegraph: “We at Ian Fleming Publications reviewed the text of the original Bond books and decided our best course of action was to follow Ian’s lead. We have made changes to ‘Live and Let Die’ that he himself authorized.
Following Ian’s approach, we looked at the instances of several racial terms across the books and removed a number of individual words or else swapped them for terms that are more accepted today but in keeping with the period in which the books were written.
We encourage people to read the books for themselves when the new paperbacks are published in April.”
The James Bond film franchise is one of the most successful in film history, which has grossed a total of $7.8 billion per a report by Variety.
The fact that Bond’s novels are being edited to conform with woke standards just shows the lengths these leftist freaks will go to police language and culture. Not all fights are politics, and it pays to have nationalists actively working in the private sector and cultural spaces to keep leftists at bay.
