January 6th Inciter Ray Epps to Sit For Transcribed Interview Before Congressional Committee

The man caught on camera encouraging pro-Trump protestors to “go into the Capitol” just before the January 6th riot is reportedly set to testify before the Democrat January 6th Congressional Committee, in a development that could shine new insight on his motives and potential affiliations.

Ray Epps was initially listed by the FBI as a “most wanted” suspect in the aftermath of the riot, only to disappear from the FBI’s website in July. Some have pointed to Epps as a potential federal informant, who may have been at the scene of the riot with the intent to incite demonstrators to commit crimes.

Politico has quoted Epps’ lawyer in reporting indicating Epps will sit for a transcribed interview with the January 6th Committee on Friday.

According to Illinois Congressman Adam Kinzinger, Epps already stated that he has no affiliations with law enforcement nor was he acting in concert with any agency at the January 6th riot. The interview he gave the committee earlier wasn’t transcribed or under oath, and his additional transcribed interview would amount to the Arizona man’s first public comments since the riot. Epps’ lawyer is quoted as stating that the untranscribed interview was merely a preview of the more thorough and public-record interview his client intends to provide to the committee.

Epps himself never entered the Capitol building, although video footage reveals him whispering to a man who would be ultimately charged for unlawful entry shortly before the first entrance to the Capitol was breached.

Attacking Capitol police officers and breaking into the entrances of the Capitol was never going to prevent Congress from certifying the results of the 2020 presidential election, with Epps’ suspicious behavior going unpunished by the justice system. It’s more possible that Epps, a member of the Oath Keepers social media organization, agreed to cooperate with law enforcement in the aftermath of the riot to save his own skin and hand over other rioters for criminal prosecution.
