It seems nowadays more and more young people are suffering from severe medical conditions such as strokes and blood clots that were previously considered existentially rare. Famous pop singer Justin Bieber’s wife, Hailey Baldwin Bieber, unfortunately, appeared to be a victim of what seems to be an increasingly common trend.

The wife of the famous pop star is now recovering after developing a blood clot that moved to her brain, PEOPLE Health reports. The report also said that according to a vascular neurologist this is a health problem increasing in frequency with “younger and younger people.”

“We think of stroke as being something that happens in older ages, but we are seeing it in younger and younger people,” said Dr. Shazam Hussain, the director of the Cerebrovascular Center at Cleveland Clinic, in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE. “It relates, generally, to people having unhealthy lifestyles, maybe not eating as well or not getting in regular exercise, along with other factors like genetics. So it’s important that people don’t just think of it as something that happens to older people. If you’re younger and have those symptoms, you’ve got to get to the hospital.”

Pushes by the media to normalize the prolific rise in blood clots that young people are experiencing have been seen before. It was February of last month when the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention made an online post claiming that anybody can get a blood clot, even if they are healthy and in peak physical condition.

“#DYK that anyone can develop a blood clot?” the CDC wrote online that month. “Whether you’re an athlete or a fan, don’t let a blood clot ruin the big game this weekend. Learn how to protect your health.”

Hailey Bieber is reportedly currently recovering from the incident.
