World famous handgun manufacturer Gaston Glock, died on December 27, 2023. He passed away at 94 years old. restart
Glock was born in Vienna, Austria on July 19, 1929. Per a New York Times report, Glock “managed a car-radiator factory near Vienna” right before taking a proactive step towards making a new handgun during the 1980s.
At the time, he found out that the Austrian Army was looking for a new handgun design and he built a 9mm semiautomatic handgun that dramatically changed the firearm landscape for years to come.
Glock’s first success was with the Glock Model 17. In this case, the Austrian Army ordered 20,000 Glock Model 17 units. Since then, “two-thirds of America’s police forces” have adopted Glock as their standard issue carry weapon.
On top of that, the Glock has become a fixture among law enforcement agencies in the federal government.
Millions of Americans own Glocks as a means of self-defense. Thanks to the right to bear arms, these are among the most reliable handguns that lawful Americans can use for self-defense purposes.
Glock’s death is without a doubt a tragic moment in the firearms world. Nevertheless, his life’s work is very much being carried out by worthy successors and will continue to inspire future generations of gunmakers.
