Maine Politicians Pressure Cabela’s to Stop Selling “Assault Rifles” After Gunman Bought Handgun There

45 Maine elected officials are pressuring Cabela’s to stop selling AR-15s and other firearms Democrats label as “assault rifles,” calling attention to how the October 25, 2023, Lewiston murderer purchased a handgun from the retail giant.

The funny part of this push for corporate gun control is that AR-15s are a different category of firearms from the handgun the mass shooter purchased. Nevertheless, elected officials are still pushing for Cabela’s to end AR-15 sales.

A report by WGME highlighted that this push is being spearheaded by State Representative Lori Gramlich. She and 44 other elected officials sent a letter to Cabela’ highlighting their demand. It read, in part:

“The horrific loss of life in Lewiston on Oct. 25, 2023 from such a legally purchased weapon is a wakeup call to all of us in Maine that a mass casualty shooting can happen here. We all need to do our part to make sure it does not happen again. Doing nothing is simply not acceptable. As one of the nation’s most successful outdoor enthusiast businesses, making this decision will help Maine heal.

You would set an example for other outdoor retailers in Maine to join you in this concrete, common-sense change – just as Walmart did when it banned these weapons for sale in all of their stores nationwide. LL Bean and Dick’s Sporting Goods have also demonstrated leadership by choosing not to sell military-style semi-automatic weapons.”

On top of that, the elected officials have called on Kittery Trading Post to halt the sale of so-called “assault rifles.” Kittery Trading Post has been operational since the late 1930s.

Gun Control Inc. understands that their legislative gun control approach has certain limits, so it resorts to placing pressure on all businesses — gun-related or not — to ensure that firearm transactions don’t occur. Similar calls will continue unabated if gun rights activists don’t retake control of businesses — big or small.

The current fight in front of us is all-encompassing and requires vigilance on all fronts.
