Maryland Democrats are Calling for $300,000 Liability Insurance Mandate for Concealed Carriers

Democrats in the Maryland State House are currently pushing for a $300,000 liability mandate for concealed carry holders in the state.

Per a WBFF report,  the legislation in question, House Bill 430, was originally introduced by Delegate Terri Hill. This bill would prohibit any individuals from carrying or wearing a firearm for the purpose of self-defense unless the person carrying the firearm complies with the insurance mandate.

Hill’s legislation stated the following:

A person may not wear or carry a firearm unless the person has obtained and it covered by liability insurance issued by an insurer authorized to do business in the State under the Insurance Article to cover claims for property damage, bodily injury, or death arising from an accident resulting from the person’s use or storage of a firearm or up to $300,000 for damages arising from the same incident, in addition to interest and costs.

Delegate Ryan Nawrocki criticized the legislation, calling attention to how it deprives people of the ability to be armed for self-defense by making the ability to concealed carry a firearm cost prohibitive.

He declared, “The constitution doesn’t say that you know, that poor people can’t own a firearm because they can’t afford that insurance,”

FOX News noted that Hill’s bill features an exemption for firearms that are unloaded and for “members of the military or federal law enforcement officers.”

This bill is clearly designed to price lawful individuals out of the ability to concealed carry. The gun control crowd knows full well that it can’t pass direct forms of gun control that completely ban the ability to carry or own firearms. Nevertheless, they will try to pass gradualist regulations that will result in the de facto deprivation of individuals’ right to bear arms.

For that reason, gun owners will need to keep constant tabs on gun control legislation being put forward in state legislatures to prevent Gun Control Inc. from getting easy wins.
