Miami Mayor Francis Suarez Suspends 2024 Presidential Campaign

On Tuesday, August 27, 2023, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez suspended his 2024 presidential campaign after he was unable to participate in the first Republican presidential debate.

Suarez threw his hat in the ring in the middle of June, however he did not meet the Republican National Committee’s (RNC’s) debate criteria after asserting that he had qualified. The mayor posted on his Twitter account that his White House campaign has wrapped up, but promised to back the eventual GOP nominee to defeat the “failing” Biden regime in 2024.

“While I have decided to suspend my campaign for President, my commitment to making this a better nation for every American remains,” Suarez stated on X. “I look forward to keeping in touch with the other Republican presidential candidates and doing what I can to make sure our party puts forward a strong nominee who can inspire and unify the country, renew Americans’ trust in our institutions and in each other, and win.”

The RNC mandated that all candidates reach a 40,000 unique donor threshold, meet certain polling criteria, and sign on to a loyalty pledge to back the eventual nominee. Suarez, alongside former Texas Congressman Will Hurd, conservative radio host Larry Elder and Michigan businessman Perry Johnson did not participate in the debate as outlined by the RNC’s polling requirement owing to sample size issues, surveys supported by an organization connected to a campaign and not qualifying as a nationwide poll.

Suarez got ahead of himself by announcing he had been accepted on the debate stage, which the RNC quickly rebutted. On a previous occasion, the mayor stated that any candidate who couldn’t qualify for the first debate should drop out of the primary race altogether.

Suarez’s presence in the presidential race will not be missed. As a BLP affiliate previously reported, Suarez supported the use of military force against Cuba to topple the Castro regime. Suarez is also a known mass migration booster and makes many friendly gestures towards the LGBT community.

Ultimately, weak sauce Republicans like Suarez need to be fully purged from the party altogether. The US cannot afford to have a Republican Party that’s still mired with neoconservatism and other anti-constitutional permutations.
