National Association for Gun Rights Publishes Statement Criticizing Senator Chuck Schumer’s “Assault Weapons Ban”

On December 6, 2023 Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced his plan to “put the Assault Weapons Ban on the Senate floor” in that week.

Schumer’s plan would circumvent the committee process, debate, and a floor vote, in expectation of receiving unanimous consent on a bill that does not have the votes necessary to pass.

“Schumer is grandstanding, throwing up a hail Mary, in a purely political attempt to weasel a so-called ‘Assault Weapons Ban’ though the Senate without a vote,” stated Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights. “A sweeping gun ban of any variety is clearly unconstitutional in light of the Bruen decision.”

Bruen determined that any gun regulation that does not align with the text, history, and tradition of the Second Amendment is unconstitutional.

“Schumer and the Democrat’s endgame is the total destruction of the Second Amendment and disarming the American people,” declared Brown.

NAGR is urging all pro-gun members of the United States Senate to block Schumer’s procedural bypass and call for a floor vote. NAGR stands firmly in opposition to any attempt to prohibit semi-auto firearms and standard capacity magazines.

NAGR is one of the most principled organizations on gun rights matters. It can be counted on to defend gun rights at all levels of government — local, state, and federal. Moreover, NAGR is willing to go on offense, as evidenced by its successful push for Constitutional Carry in red states.

It’s no surprise why NAGR has 4.5 million members nationally. Voters want fierce defenders of their freedoms, not lukewarm proponents.
