Netflix Removes LGBTQ Tag From Jeffery Dahmer Documentary After Activist Backlash, ‘Not The Representation We’re Looking For’

“Was Jeffery Dahmer gay?” is a question that has been trending on Twitter all day. Primarily because the documentary about the deranged serial killer was hosted in the LGBTQ section on Netflix.

The film, which discusses Dahmer who killed, dismembered and cannibalized 17 boys and men, has since been removed from the LGBTQ section due to activist backlash.

Per The New York Post:

Netflix is no longer using the LGBTQ tag on its controversial series about deranged serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer following a furious backlash.

The streaming service has not given an official reason for dropping the tag on “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” in which Evan Peters plays the late Milwaukee cannibal who murdered and chopped up 17 men.

However, it followed several days’ worth of outrage online by disgusted viewers, many of whom tagged Netflix in their attacks.

In TikTok user Lizthelezbo’s now-viral post, she asked “why the f–K did Netflix tag the Jeffrey Dahmer documentary LGBTQ?”

“I mean, I know it’s technically true,” she would admit, “but this is not the representation we’re looking for.”

Though the backlash was immense, not everyone was against Netflix classifying the documentary under the LGBTQ tag.

“The Dahmer case is a huge part of LGBTQ history, it’s important people know he got away with so much,” one person said. Likely suggesting that a key theme highlighted by the true-crime series was how homophobia may have played a part in cops failing to investigate Dahmer sooner

“I mean, it is something that greatly impacted the lgbtq community, right? Educational purposes?!” said one TikTok user in support of Netflix’s original decision.

“Jeffrey Dahmer was a real person,” shared another user on Twitter.

“He murdered real people. He was a gay man. He has been historically portrayed in film and television for literally over 30 years over a hundred times and all of a sudden because of a Netflix series, people are acting like he murdered their mom,” he added.
