New Mexico Governor Michelle Luján Grisham Advances Lawsuits Against Gun Manufacturers and Other Anti-Gun Measures

On January 12, 2024, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham  introduced a gun control package, which features an “assault weapons” ban, the ability for New Mexican residents to file a lawsuit against firearm manufacturers, and a two-week waiting period for gun purchases, among other civilian disarmament proposals.

Per a report by The Los Alamos Daily Post Grisham’s push will prohibit “guns in parks and playgrounds,” which will “make it illegal to carry a firearm in county or municipal parks, playgrounds, and their accompanying parking lots.” This would give teeth to a prohibition that Grisham enacted through executive order on September 8, 2023.

Another facet of her gun control package would “[prohibit] guns in polling places.” This “makes it illegal to carry firearms within 100 feet of polling places during an election.”

According to AWR Hawkins of Breitbart News, Democrat elected officials are sponsoring aspects of the gun control package, which includes State Senator Peter Wirth and State Representatives Andrea Romero, Christine Chandler, and Reena Szczepanski.

Per a FOX News report, Grisham remarked on the gun package, declaring, “The constitutionality questions are beginning to be very complicated in the arena of gun violence. … We are going to continue this effort, following what is going on around the country. … There will be others who will follow in our footsteps, creating their own public safety corridors, which in effect also make New Mexicans safer.”

New Mexico is drifting towards solidly anti-gun status as evidenced by its 34th place ranking on Guns & Ammo magazine’s best states for gun owners rankings. Lujan Grisham is a tyrant of the highest order. The fact she’s taking executive action to implement gun control is a telltale sign that her agenda is incredibly unpopular and requires executive action to implement.

Gun owners must not only oppose the governor’s gun grabs but they must also relieve her of the burden of holding higher office.

Bad political behavior must be severely punished.
