A town in New Mexico has dedicated itself to be a place that avidly protects unborn life.
Roswell, New Mexico City Council passed a resolution last week that gave protection to “fetal life”. “In a seven-to-one vote, with one council member abstaining, the City Council passed Resolution 19-28, which declares ‘that innocent human life, including fetal life, must always be protected and that Society must protect those who cannot protect themselves,'” according to Live Action.
The Resolution dealt with the Second Amendment and protecting fetal life. Roswell Daily Record reports, “In the drafted abstracts of both resolutions, the city stated to not enforce proposed laws or regulations conflicting with the right to bear arms or protecting “fetal life” and morals of healthcare professionals.” Thanks to the passing of Resolution 19-28, many pro-lifers are dubbing Roswell a ‘sanctuary city for the unborn.’
The pro-life crowd in New Mexico has had some big wins over the last few weeks. The Resolution comes in wake of the surprising pro-life vote against H.B. 51 that would have made abortion up to birth legal for basically any reason in the state. While late-term abortion is already allowed in the state, H.B.51 would have ensured that it remain legal, as well as do away with common sense abortion laws if Roe v. Wade were to be overturned in the future.
The pro-life strides that the state is making is sure to be causing “Catholic” Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham grief after she so-outspokenly vowed to sign the pro-death bill. Big League Politics previously reported about the Governors thoughts on abortion:
“As governor, I have pledged to sign House Bill 51, which would do exactly that.
Not simply because it will align New Mexico with established law, although it does, and we should all be glad to right a constitutional wrong whenever we can.
I support decriminalizing abortion because I have every intention of leading a state that values women, that empowers women, that listens to women.”
