New Poll Shows that the Majority of Democrats Don’t Want Biden to Run for Re-Election
Is Joe Biden politically on the ropes?
Per a new poll, roughly two-thirds of Democratic voters do not want the sitting president to pursue re-election in 2024.
In a New York Times and Siena College poll released on July 11, 2022, 64% of respondents indicated that they would prefer the Democratic Party nominate a new presidential candidate in 2024.
According to a One America News report, “Respondents cited Biden’s age and job performance as the top two reasons for wanting another nominee.”
One of the most remarkable findings in this poll was how 94% of respondents under 30 believe Democrats should nominate a different candidate for the presidency in 2024.
Moreover, Biden has one of the lowest approval ratings in modern history. Per FiveThirtyEight polling data that was published on July 11, Biden’s approval rating stood at 38%. It’s the lowest approval rating for a president since 1945 with the exception of Harry Truman. In 1946, for perspective, Truman’s approval rating stood at 33%.
Biden’s unpopularity is not just a Democrat vs. Republican dynamic. Even individuals within the Democratic coalition are getting fed up with Biden.
The combination of rising inflation, growing fuel costs, a collapsed border, and widespread crime makes it easy for voters to take their frustrations out on Biden. Populist Republicans should take advantage of this discontent and campaign on a message that emphasizes a restoration of order i.e. reasonable law enforcement policies, foreign policy retrenchment, immigration restriction, and stronger border security. It’s one of the easiest ways for populists to win and consolidate their political power.
