New York Senator Chuck Schumer Warns About Increasing Anti-Semitism as Israel-Hamas Conflict Rages On

On November 29, 2023, New York Senator Chuck Schumer warned that the recent increase in anti-Semitism in the United States is making countless Jewish Americans feel isolated. He added that anti-Semites are “taking advantage of the pro-Palestinian movement to espouse hatred and bigotry toward Jewish people.”

The New York Senator added that anti-Semites are taking advantage of “young people who yearn for justice, unknowingly aiding and abetting their cause.”

During a speech on the Senate floor about attacks against Jews throughout the Israel-Hamas war, Schumer called on those supporting the Palestinian cause to read up on the history of violence and oppression Jews have been subjected to for centuries.

“I am speaking up to issue a warning informed by lessons of history, too often forgotten,” stated Schumer. “No matter where we stand on the war in Gaza, all of us must condemn antisemitism with full-throated clarity wherever we see it before it metastasizes into something even worse.”

Schumer alluded to attacks on Jews across history spanning attacks in ancient Egypt to the Nazi regime (1933-1945) to a recent incident at Hillcrest High School in Queens, where students attacked a Jewish teacher.

Schumer’s remarks about rising anti-Semitism in the US comes at a time when Democrats are facing increasing tension within the party with respect to a move towards a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war and demands to stymie or tack on conditions to further US military aid to Israel. The Democrat Party’s base has also become more diverse and less pro-Zionist, which makes it more difficult to muster support for the Jewish state among the Democrat ranks compared to previous times.

In his speech, Schumer offered a word of caution that “many” of the people manifesting anti-Semitism in the US were “people that most liberal Jewish Americans felt previously were their ideological fellow travelers.” In this case, Schumer was largely referencing non-whites, who often harbor anti-white sentiments. He declared that “in the eyes of some, that principle does not extend to the Jewish people.”

Schumer also stated that his “heart breaks for the thousands of Palestinian civilians who have been killed or are suffering in this conflict.” However, he said, the blame for all of these civilian deaths lies with Hamas, which “knowingly invited an immense civilian toll during this war.”

Schumer should stick to dealing with American political issues as opposed to those pertaining to Israel. Truth be told, the US could avoid this spiking anti-Semitiism by restricting immigration (in order to prevent migrants with ethnic axes to grind from settling in the US) and ending military aid to Israel.

If Schumer can’t make an effort to serve the American people, he should serve in the Israeli Knesset.

The US simply has too many politicians who are slavishly devoted to Israel. For once, can we get a politic
