Nikki Haley Fools Beltway “Liberty” Orgs

Neconservative darling Nikki Haley has been attacking fellow Republican presidential rival Ron DeSantis for campaigning in Iowa with Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie.

In December, Haley took DeSantis to task for his association with Massie. “You can’t be pro-Israel and bring the most anti-Israel Republican into this state, who voted against fighting antisemitism on college campuses,” Haley proclaimed. “And that’s who he brought to your state.” Massie was the only House Republican to vote against a Republican-sponsored resolution condemning antisemitism on university campuses.

Massie scoffed at Haley’s remarks and described her as a “brunette Liz Cheney.” “She hates free speech as much as she loves war and foreign aid,” Massie declared in an X post published on December 18, 2023.

Haley doubled down in response that same day declaring that the Kentucky Congressman is “the most anti-Israel Republican there is.” “[Massie] voted with the Squad against calling out antisemitism on college campuses,” the former South Carolina Governor stated. “Voted with the Squad against hitting the presidents that were allowing it to happen … That’s who he brought to Iowa, so let [DeSantis] answer for that.”

At the Republican presidential debate held on January 10, 2024, Nikki Haley posted the following on her X account:

Ron DeSantis brought the person who tweeted this disgusting meme to Iowa to campaign with him.

In Haley’s post, she quote tweeted Massie’s December 5, post of a meme using images from Canadian rapper Drake’s video for “Hotline Bling.” The meme is usually posted to ridicule hypocrisy.

Massie got the final word by declaring in an X post, “I’m living in Nikki Haley’s head rent free… and trust me, there’s plenty of empty space in here!”

Cliff Maloney, the CEO of Mobilize the Message and a close ally of Massie, took to X to not only call out Haley but also some of the self-proclaimed “libertarian” and “pro-liberty”: organizations that endorsed her. Maloney tweeted:

“Neocon Nikki Haley just attacked  @RepThomasMassie

Not once. Not twice. But three times. The fact that so called “liberty” orgs have endorsed Haley is unforgivable You know exactly who you are and it’s sick that you continue to hide behind a paycheck Shame on you COWARDS!”

BLP previously reported  on how American for Prosperity Action, an organization that is a part of the Koch network, endorsed the former United States Ambassador to the United Nations. In effect, a purported “libertarian”, free market organization endorsed the most pro-war candidate for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

For organizations that claim to be pro-liberty, this is simply unacceptable. A key plank of libertarian philosophy is a foreign policy of realism and non-interventionism. Any candidate who espouses neoconservative/neoliberal interventionist views is simply not pro-liberty. So-called pro-liberty organizations who engage in this kind of behavior should not only be criticized but also be thoroughly discredited by watchdog organizations.

The last thing we need is for pro-liberty organizations to sell their souls to the political establishment.
