Nikki Haley Receives a Big Endorsement From the Koch Network
This week, American for Prosperity Action, a tentacle of the Koch network, endorsed former United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley.
A Koch-aligned political group has endorsed the most hawkish candidate for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
The Koch network and its lackeys have made it clear for some time that they want to move away from the Trumpian, populist wave that has captured the Republican Party.
“When we announced our decision to engage in our first ever Republican presidential primary, we made it clear that we’d be looking for a candidate who can turn the page on our political dysfunction — and win,” Americans for Prosperity Action’s Emily Seidel declared in a statement.
“Donald Trump and Joe Biden will only further perpetuate the country’s downward spiral in politics,” she added in a memo explaining why the Koch-aligned group endorsed Haley. “Furthermore, a significant majority of voters want somebody new.”
One pillar of Haley’s campaign has been the need for fresh blood in American politics. She has taken subtle shots at President Joe Biden (81 years of age) and former President Donald Trump (77 years of age) for being out of touch with the rest of the nation.
Haley is largely running a neoconservative interventionist, allegedly fiscally conservative platform. Essentially, a typical Conservativism campaign. She has most famously tussled with entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy on issues of foreign policy, specifically the Russo-Ukrainian conflict. Haley wants to take a more muscular approach to the conflict, while Ramaswamy has advocated for restraint.
Trump is still the prohibitive favorite to win the GOP nomination, with him leading the way by 47.5 percentage points at the national level, per RealClearPolitics’ polling averages.
The Koch network’s endorsement of Haley shows this network’s fanatic devotion to stand against Trump, as opposed to faithfully carrying out its ostensive libertarian vision of promoting limited government and a restrained foreign policy.
In many respects, the donor class is propping up Haley in an effort to position her as a potential vice presidential candidate for Trump in 2024. From there, she can function as a neocon stalking horse who will subvert the Trump administration from within.
Trump should do everything possible to keep the likes of Haley from his administration. Bringing her onboard will assuredly give the neocon crowd another way to derail his presidency and maintain the interventionist status quo.
