“Not in My City:” Democrat NYC Mayor-Elect Pledges No Surrender to BLM, ANTIFA Thugs in Tough-On-Crime Speech

New York City Mayor-elect Eric Adams pledged not to surrender the city’s streets to the thugs of Black Lives Matter and ANTIFA in a Police Athletic League event on Thursday, striking a tone unheard of during the tenure of ultraprogressive mayor Bill de Blasio.
“We’re not going to surrender to those who are saying, ‘We’re going to burn down New York.’ Not my city,” said Adams. The incoming mayor was alluding to threats from Black Lives Matter leader Hank Newsome, who had threatened “riots, fire and bloodshed” in response to Adams’ plan to reinstate the NYPD’s use of plainclothes police officers. Adams served as an NYPD officer for 22 years.
Adams also addressed ANTIFA violence in the speech, striking a tone that one might expect from a Republican elected official. “We’re not going to have a city where anarchists come from outside our city and go into a community such as Queens and destroy the community for their own selfish needs or desires,” warned Adams. ANTIFA militants tactically inserted into groups of Black Lives Matter rioters during the summer’s riots enacted some of the most severe destruction in the city, with two progressive lawyers firebombing a police car.
Adams had offered a tough-on-crime approach in his campaign, with even the affluent liberal residents of New York City tired of riots, petty crimes, assaults, and declining quality of life. Many New Yorkers point to the get-out-of-jail bail reform laws enacted in 2020, which has allowed repeat, career offenders to shuffle out of jail en route to even more violent crimes in the community.
Adams has been hailed as a moderate- at least, comparatively speaking in a jurisdiction as left-wing as New York. In his PAL speech, Adams went on to bemoan the closure of small businesses in the city, the culture of hostility towards police, and cited previous tough-on-crime NYPD police commissioner Bill Bratton as an inspiration.
