Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan Subpoenaed Department of Education Over School Board Issue
On February 3, 2023, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan officially subpoenaed the Department of Education.
Per the subpoena, Education Secretary Miguel Cardona was “commanded” to turn over documents before the Judiciary Committee on March 1, 2023. The subpoena came right after as Jordan sent four letters to several officials on February 3, calling for information and interviews that the committee had previously been requesting, according to a Daily Caller report.
The Daily Caller was the first organization to get its hands on the letters. These letters were sent to Chip Slaven, former Interim Executive Director and CEO of the National School Boards Association; Nina Jankowicz, former leader of the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) “Disinformation Governance Board;” Viola Garcia with the National School Boards Association, and Jennifer Moore, the Executive Assistant Director for the Human Resources Branch at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
In the letters, Jordan blamed each official for ignoring requests to produce transcribed interviews, in addition to not providing the committee with the documents and information they requested on prior occasions. Jordan gave the officials one final opportunity to appear before the committee before subpoenaing the officials.
The Daily Caller previously reported that Cardona allegedly solicited a letter from the National School Boards Association (NSBA) comparing parents to domestic terrorists, per emails that Parents Defending Education (PDE) obtained. PDE emails showed that the letter allegedly called for federal investigators to surveil and intervene in activities by concerned parents. After the letter was made public, the NBSA sent out a memo to members announcing, “We regret and apologize for the letter.”
Jordan is right to start holding Biden regime officials accountable for their political misbehavior, but more must be done to put the Left in its place. Republicans must abandon their fetish with limited government dogma and be ready to use the state as a force for restoring order against the Left.
In these times of existential crisis, Republicans cannot go blathering on about first principles when dealing with an enemy — the cultural Left — that wants to destroy them.
