Pennsylvania House Democrats Push Forward “Assault Weapons” Prohibition & Other Gun Control Measures
On January 17, 2024, Pennsylvania House Democrats put forward an “assault weapons” prohibition and a prohibition on the purchase, possession, and sale of non-serialized firearm parts.
On top of that, the Democrats also put forward legislation to “prohibit accelerated trigger activators, which increase the rate of gunfire,” and a bill to “subject 3D-printed firearms to the same regulations as standard firearms,” per an Associated Press report.
All 4 bills made their way through the House Judiciary committee.
Due to the partisan makeup of the Pennsylvania General Assembly, these measures will have a hard time passing. Republicans control the State Senate by a 28 to 22 margin while the State House
The gun controls have only a slim chance of surviving Pennsylvania’s Republican-controlled Senate if they manage to pass in the evenly split House. There are 101 Democrats and 100 Republicans in the Pennsylvania House.
The NRA-ILA reported, “Until a special election is held in February, the House partisan divide is deadlocked at 101-101. They can pass bills in committee where they have stacked the vote, but few of these bad ideas gain traction on the floor. In addition, the partisan bills haven’t generated any interest in the Republican-controlled Senate. There is not a single Republican sponsor on any of these bills.”
Pennsylvania is a battleground state in the Trump era. However there are still residual elements of Gun Control Inc. operating in the Keystone State. The state is currently ranked in 32nd place according to Guns & Ammo magazine’s best states for gun owners rankings.
There’s still a lot of work that has to be done in order to improve Pennsylvania’s Second Amendment profile.
The first step towards restoring any semblance of gun rights is by maintaining eternal vigilance at all levels of government.
