Philadelphia To Reinstate Forced Masking

Philadelphia To Reinstate Forced Masking-Will Covid-19 mandates be around forever? The city of Philadelphia is set to once again force the wearing of masks in public spaces, NPR reported. City health officials cited a rise in Covid-19 cases to justify the draconian measure.
“Our city remains open; we can still go about our daily lives and visit the people and places we love while masking in indoor public spaces,” Mayor Jim Kenney said in a statement. “I’m optimistic that this step will help us control the case rate.”

The current order does not impose inoculation or testing requirements for restaurant patrons. It also mandates the wearing of masks in schools, childcare settings, restaurants, and government buildings.
It remains unclear if and when the mandate will be lifted, as well as whether or not the ending of the mandate will be permanent rather than temporary.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the disgraced director National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and chief medical adviser to President Biden, recently said that such a surge is to be expected when speaking on NPR’s spoke to All Things Considered.
“If our pattern follows that of the U.K., which we usually do and are usually about three to four weeks behind them, they are having a significant upsurge in the number of cases,” Fauci said. “We are hoping that if that does happen, the degree of background immunity that we have in the country … [means] we will not see an increase in severity in the sense of a concomitant increase significantly in the number of hospitalizations.”
Fauci made headlines just a couple of weeks ago after he came out of the woodwork to publicly warn that the United States may once again face brutal and draconian measures similar to what Americans saw beginning in March of 2020.
“I don’t want to use the word ‘lockdowns.’ That has a charged element to it. But, I believe that we must keep our eye on the pattern of what we’re seeing with infections,” he said at the time.
“Having said that, we need to be prepared for the possibility that we would have another variant that would come along,” Fauci added. “And then, if things change and we do get a variant that does give us an uptick in cases and hospitalization, we should be prepared and flexible enough to pivot toward going back — at least temporarily — to a more rigid type of restrictions, such as requiring masks indoors.”
