POLL: 47% of American Voters View New Speaker Mike Johnson Favorably

In a recent Rasmussen poll, new House Speaker Mike Johnson enjoys a favorable impression among 47% of likely United States voters, which includes 25% with a very favorable opinion of the new House Speaker. 29% view Johnson in an unfavorable manner, which includes 18% with a very unfavorable impression of the House Speaker from Louisiana. An additional 24% are unsure.

On October 25, 2023, Mike Johnson was elected on October 25 to replace former Speaker Kevin McCarthy and serve as the 56th Speaker of the House.

33% of likely voters believe Johnson will be a better Speaker than Kevin McCarthy, while 31% believe Johnson will be worse and 31% indicate Johnson and McCarthy are roughly the same. An additional 13% are unsure.

41% of voters believe Johnson is more effective as a leader than House Minority Leader Jeffries, whereas 29% believe Johnson is less effective than Jeffries. 15% indicated that Johnson and Jeffries are about the same when it comes to their effectiveness as leaders.

59% of Republican voters view Johnson as a more effective leader than Jeffries, in addition to 28% of Democrat voters and 37% of independent voters. 45% of Democrat voters, 13% of Republican voters, and 28% of independent voters view Johnson as less effective than Jeffries.

Johnson is viewed at least somewhat favorably by 63% of Republican voters, 35% of Democrat voters, and 43% of independent voters.

45% of Republican voters believe Johnson will be a better House Speaker than McCarthy, a view shared by 25% of Democrat voters and 28% of independent voters. 35% of Democrat voters, 12% of Republican voters, and 23% of independent voters believe Johnson will be worse than McCarthy. 30%  of Republican voters, 28% of Democrat voters, and 35% of independent voters view Johnson and McCarthy as being roughly the same.

Johnson’s time as speaker looks promising, as evidenced by his decision to release the January 6 tapes. However, questions remain about how effective he will be as a leader. This will necessitate grassroots conservatives to keep tabs on Johnson and pressure him to do the right thing. After all, politicians can’t always be counted on to do the right thing on their own volition.
