POLL: 78% of Democrats Want to Remove Trump’s Name From Ballot

A recently published Rasmussen poll revealed that 47% of likely United States voters are in favor of state officials taking Trump’s name off the ballot, which includes 34% who strongly approve. 50% are against this move, which includes 42% who strongly disapprove of states removing Trump’s name from the ballot. 

In a high profile case recently argued in front of the Supreme Court, Colorado officials asserted that the January 6, 2021 storming of the US Capitol signified that Trump participated in  an “insurrection” and is barred from the presidency under Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment. 

78% of Democrat voters favor the states kicking Trump off the 2024 ballot. By contrast, 75% of Republican voters are against keeping Trump off the ballot, in addition to 57% of independent voters. 

With respect to whether “J6” was an insurrection, there’s significant partisan polarization. 48% of voters stated that the storming of the US Capitol should be viewed as an insurrection that made an attempt to topple the government, whereas 43% are in disagreement.

77% of Democrat voters believe the J6 storming of the Capitol was an attempt to topple the government, whereas 68% of Republicans are in disagreement. With respect to independent voters, 42% believe the January 6, 2021 storming of the Capitol was an insurrection, whereas 49% said it was not.

46% of white voters, 63% of black voters, and 43% of non-black minorities believe J6 should be viewed as an insurrection that attempted to overthrow the government, whereas 46% of white voters, 21% of black voters, and 49% of non-black minorities are in disagreement. Black voters are the demographic cohort much more likely to support state efforts to take Trump’s name off the 2024 ballot.

83% of self-identified liberal voters believe J6 should be viewed as an insurrection that attempted to topple the government, whereas 72% of conservatives are in disagreement. With respect to moderate voters, 59% believe J6 was an insurrection and 29% indicated it was not.

When it comes to income categories, 63% of voters making over $200,000 annually are in favor of state officials taking Trump’s name off the ballot. The highest disapproval came from people with yearly income in the range of $30,000 and $50,000.
