POLL: Majority of Americans View Retail Theft As a Major Problem
According to a Rasmussen poll, 52% of American adults believe shoplifting and retail theft is a grave problem in the community where they live in, which includes 21% who stated it’s a very serious problem.
38% don’t believe retail theft is a grave problem in their community and an additional 10% are unsure.
Rising crime has played a major role in a recent string of stores in states such as California. 23% of American adults stated businesses in their community have closed recently due to surging crime rates, whereas 53% have not recently experienced such store closures in their community and an additional 25% are unsure.
Rampant levels of shoplifting have caused businesses to hike prices for consumers. 78% of Americans are worried about higher prices brought about by shoplifting, which includes 45% who are very worried. Only 19% are not worried.
89% of Republican voters, 69% of Democrat voters, and 77% of independent voters are at least somewhat worried about higher prices brought about by shoplifting.
61% of Republican voters, 48% of Democrat voters, and 48% of independent voters view shoplifting and retail theft as serious problems in the community where they reside.
As far as racial groups are concerned, 74% of white voters, 85% of black voters, 86% of Hispanic voters, and 79% of other non-black minorities are at least somewhat worried about higher prices brought about by shoplifting. Blacks and Hispanics are the racial groups most likely to indicate that businesses in their community have closed recently owing to the crime problem.
As America’s cities get infested with crime, daily life will be severely disrupted. We often take for granted how most of the stuff we do on a daily basis runs smoothly due to law & order. Whenever that concept evaporates, one can expect wholesale declines in our standard of living.
