August Ames, a 23-year-old porn star, was found dead on Wednesday after days of criticism online for refusing to do a scene with a man who also shoots sex scenes with men.

The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s office has not yet announced the cause of her death. The Blast reported that “law enforcement sources tell us Ames was found early Tuesday morning in Camarillo. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and we’re told there is no indication of foul play or any other crime occurring. We’re told toxicology tests are also being conducted while the death is investigated.”

The report also stated that “close friends of Ames tell us she had suffered from long term depression, and believe a recent incident with online harassment may have contributed to her death.”

Ames, a two-time AVN award winner, had taken to Twitter to warn the woman who replaced her in the scene for the porn studio EroticaX that the costar also films sex scenes with men. The backlash was strong and immediate, with allegations that she was homophobic relentlessly flying in.

“Whichever (lady) performer is replacing me tomorrow for @EroticaXNews, you’re shooting with a guy who has shot gay porn, just to let cha know. BS is all I can say. Do agents really not care about who they’re representing? #LAdirect I do my homework for my body,” Ames had tweeted.

As the accusations and bullying continued, Ames attempted to defend herself by tweeting “NOT homophobic. Most girls don’t shoot with guys who have shot gay porn, for safety. That’s just how it is with me. I’m not putting my body at risk, i don’t know what they do in their private lives.”

“How am I homophobic if I myself am attracted to women? Not wanting to have sex with gay men is not homophobic; they don’t want to have sex with me either so byeeeee,” she added in a subsequent tweet.

The left has long claimed that women should be able to control what they do with their own bodies — apparently that does not include choosing who you have sex with.

In the days leading up to her death, a woman had tweeted at her saying that those who are attacking her would prefer for her to be raped.

Ames responded with “BASICALLY.”
