Prominent Real Estate Expert Jason Hartman Calls for the Government to Rein in Big Tech
On an episode of the Creating Wealth Podcast released on December 5, 2022 real estate expert Jason Hartman made the case for curtailing the power of Big Tech companies’ ability to censor users. He believes that censorship by big tech companies is the biggest problem humanity is facing.
Big Tech censorship has been one of the most pressing issues since Donald Trump was elected in 2016. Since then, countless dissident voices on the Left and Right have seen their social media accounts censored or outright suspended.
Hartman is of the view that Big Tech has become a “massive oppressor” and described Fakebook as “pure evil.” Moreover, he declared that “the abuses that Zuckerberg has committed against the human race are absolutely disgusting.”
During the show, Hartman noted that these companies have reached an “unprecedented scale” and he believes that when they reach the size of Facebook, Google, or Twitter, they can no longer be treated as private companies. He added that several of these companies are “bigger than many governments.”
Hartman praised the American system and declared that the “American Constitution was such a liberator for humanity.”
However, he believes that the US political class and Big Tech are working together to undermine America’s constitutional principles. In fact, he argued that politicians are “using these tech companies as a proxy to control” people’s speech. Moreover, Hartman argued that the government is colluding with Big Tech companies to “control” people’s speech and “oppress” them.
The real estate expert stated that his “prescription for this [Big Tech censorship] has always been the same.” He believes that breaking up these companies under antirust or regulating them under common carrier laws is the way to go. In addition, he called for the publication of these companies’ secretive algorithms.
Hartman is optimistic about Elon Musk’s stewardship of Twitter and thinks that he will restore a significant amount of free speech on the platform. That said, Hartman still views a government solution to the Big Tech question as the most viable way of addressing this problem.
