Rand Paul Permanently Leaves YouTube In Response to Big Tech Censorship Epidemic
Kentucky US Senator Rand Paul has announced he’s permanently leaving YouTube in response to the Big Tech platform’s wide-ranging and restrictive censorship, choosing to take action and his internet presence elsewhere. Paul had been made the target of two YouTube moderation “strikes” for challenging the establishment media line on the coronavirus, with his content frequently altered by editorial “fact checks” of the platform’s biased censors.
The libertarian-leaning Senator made the announcement in an op-ed in the Washington Examiner.
“Those of us who believe that truth comes from disputation and that the marketplace of ideas is a prerequisite for innovation should shun the close-minded censors of Big Tech and take our ideas elsewhere,” said Paul, exhorting patriots of the liberty movement to put actions behind their criticisms of Big Tech and actually leave the platform.
Paul’s content disputing the utility of cloth masks to stop spread of the coronavirus had been particularly censored by YouTube, with multiple of the Senator’s videos challenging conventional wisdom on masks being outright deleted by the Google-owned platform. Paul is urging those who support his message of liberty to leave Big Tech platforms as well, with conservatives seemingly more inclined to bemoaning Big Tech censorship as opposed to concrete measures to erode the power of the Internet’s cruel masters.
“About half of the public leans right. If we all took our messaging to outlets of free exchange, we could cripple Big Tech in a heartbeat. So, today I take my first step toward denying my content to Big Tech. Hopefully, other liberty lovers will follow.”
Paul is pledging to begin uploading his videos to Rumble, a free speech video streaming platform that some have called one of the most formidable alternatives to a Big Tech platform.
