Is there a civil war within the Grand Old Party? Senator and current National Republican Senatorial Committee chair Rick Scott (R-FL) offered some harsh criticism for Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and other members of the Republican Party establishment after they attacked GOP Senate candidates in several swing states.

Scott made these comments in a recent op-ed he wrote for the Washington Examiner. The former Florida governor began the piece trashing Joe Biden and the Democrat-controlled Senate for their inability to stop the invasion at the southern border and the disastrous condition of the American economy before pivoting to the Republican Party.

“Unfortunately, many of the very people responsible for losing the Senate last cycle are now trying to stop us from winning the majority this time by trash-talking our Republican candidate,” Scott wrote in reference to the establishment uniparty in Washington, DC.

“It’s an amazing act of cowardice, and ultimately, it’s treasonous to the conservative cause,” continued Scott. “Giving anonymous quotes to help the Washington Post or the New York Times write stories trashing Republicans is the same as working with the Democratic National Committee.”

Scott additionally singled out McConnell by name in an interview with Politico:

Sen. McConnell and I clearly have a strategic disagreement here … We have great candidates. … And I think it’s important that we’re all cheerleaders for our candidates. … If you trash talk our candidates … you hurt our chances of winning, and you hurt our candidates’ ability to raise money. … I know they’re good candidates, because I’ve been talking to them and they’re working their butts off.

These statements against McConnell by Scott come just days after Politico reported that the Mitch McConnell-aligned Senate Leadership Fund scrapped about $8 million for political ads in Arizona. The advertisments, many of which were to be used for AZ senate nominee Blake Masters, are now set to begin in early October rather than earlier in fall.

As Breitbart News noted, illegal immigration has skyrocketed during the leadership of McConnell. The national debt grew by over $20 million dollars, and ObamaCare was enacted in 2010.

“McConnell told Thiel over the phone last week that Vance’s race in Ohio was proving more costly for the Senate Leadership Fund than anticipated, that money was not unlimited and that there was a need for the billionaire to ‘come in, in a big way, in Arizona,’” reported the Washington Post on Wednesday.

Washington Post also discussed an alleged call between Masters-donor Peter Thiel and Steven Law, who both leads the Senate Leadership Fund PAC and is McConnel’s former chief of staff.

“Law, in a call with Thiel the day before his group cut back on the Arizona ads, expressed concern about Masters as a candidate and pessimism about his campaign’s viability,” wrote the Post. “Both Vance, 38, and Masters, 36, are friends and former business associates of Thiel’s; Masters stepped down from roles at Thiel’s investment firm and foundation this year.”
