Russian Leader Vladimir Putin Views Ukraine As a United States Satellite State

During his interview with right-wing journalist Tucker Carlson, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russian authorities have not ruled out the prospect of holding talks with Ukrainian authorities despite being a United States satellite state.

“I already said that we did not refuse to talk. We’re willing to negotiate. It is the Western side, and Ukraine is obviously a satellite state of the US. It is evident. I do not want you to take it as if I am looking for a strong word or an insult. But we both understand what is happening,” Putin stated.

As hyperbolic as Putin’s statement may sound, there’s some degree of truth here. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the Collective West has been arming Ukraine to the hilt in an attempt to bleed Russia dry in a geopolitical quagmire.

From an even broader picture, the West has been trying to turn Ukraine into a bulwark against Russia since the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.

This project reached unprecedented levels of instability in 2014, when the US facilitated the Euromaidan crisis that toppled the government of Viktor Yanukovych. Since then, the West has provided economic, military aid, and intelligence support to Ukraine in an effort to turn it into a de facto NATO state.

When it became clear that diplomatic options were no longer on the table, Russia opted to invade Ukraine on February 24, 2022. From there, the rest was history.

To bring about peace in Ukraine, the US and its allies must do everything possible to end aid to it and ensure that Ukraine acts as an actual sovereign actor as opposed to a satrapy of NATO.
