In yet another effort to normalize socialism and communism in the United States, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) took to Twitter to claim the word “communist” was popularized as a white supremacist slur against civil rights pioneers in the 1950s.
Quoting a tweet that read, “the argument that it’s okay to be racist against a socialist who is critical of America was pioneered in the 1960s by National Review in their many attacks on Martin Luther King, Jr.”, Ocasio-Cortez made the radical claim that “communist” is a “smear” associated with “white supremacy.”
“Calling people who believe in democracy, civil + economic rights, and racial justice ‘communist’ has a long + rich history w/ white supremacy in the US,” wrote Ocasio-Cortez. She also claimed it was “one of the main attacks segregationists used against MLK Jr”.

In other words, if patriotic Americans are concerned about the growing call for socialism and communism in the United States, they are inextricably tied to white nationalists.
Ocasio-Cortez’s bizarre claim is eerily similar to a Twitter verified activist who recently made the claim that the word “communist” is synonymous with the n-word.
Bree Newsome, a self-described “artist” and activist who climbed a South Carolina flag pole to remove the Confederate flag in 2015 and was somehow verified by Twitter as a result, made the claim that “communist” is somehow a code word for the n-word, and wrote the word in its entirety. The word, typically removed from Twitter, is apparently allowed for the sake of defending communism.
In a series of tweets, Newsome wrote “Since at least the 1950s, “communist” has become a popular coded word for n*****. Let’s be real,” and added that “Anybody Black advocating equal rights is a “communist” [read: no good n*****] who is a threat to the American way of life [read: white man’s country]. They called MLK communist when they weren’t calling him Martin Luther Coon.”
Doubling down despite the majority of responses calling her out on the defamatory and bizarre statement, Newsome lambasted those who dared to question her supreme wokeness.
While Ocasio-Cortez echoes Twitter leftists who are eager to call anyone they disagree with racist, her policies are potentially securing a massive electoral defeat for the Democrat Party.
As Big League Politics reported, top Democrats are worried Ocasio-Cortez and her love of socialism are spelling doom for the Democrat Party, as socialism is still considered “toxic” to the vast majority of white, blue collar, American voters who do not have a college education.
That is to say, it is toxic to the exact demographic Democrats lost in 2016 and 2018, and desperately need to secure to maintain control of the House and have any shot of winning the presidency come 2020.
City of Denver Unanimously Votes to Rename Columbus Park “La Raza Park”
There might come a time when nothing in the US is named after Christopher Columbus.
The Denver City Council unanimously voted to rename Columbus Park last week Monday, and now it will be named “La Raza Park.”
“La raza” is Spanish for “the race,” which has connotations with Latino identity politics. A Denver Post article tells us that the phrase “viva la raza” (long live the race) was the “rallying cry of the Chicano movement in the 1960s and ’70s.” The Chicano Movement encouraged Mexican ethnic and cultural solidarity with a particular emphasis on their indigenous heritage. The movement, however, rejected assimilation and thus the term “Mexican-American,” essentially branding themselves as the Hispanic version of the Black Power movement.
Councilwoman Amanda Sandoval claims that the unanimous vote was an act of officially naming a park that has “always” been unofficially called by its new name. “La raza is a word of unity and about celebrating community,” she said without a hint of irony.
The reason for officially renaming the park is about what you’d expect, namely because Christopher Columbus is irredeemably associated with colonialism and genocide and is thus not fit to be honored in any way, shape, or form.
Arturo Gonzalez, a retired professor, said that “Mexican Chicanos and Indigenous peoples have suffered genocide over the last 500 years. We live with that trauma. We continue to live with that trauma.”
Renaming parks, buildings, and schools that were previously named after so-called “problematic” or “white supremacist” historical figures is nothing new, of course, but the practice has accelerated over the past several months due to the hysteria following the George Floyd riots.
Big League Politics has covered many instances of this phenomenon. One of the most recent instances included a San Francisco school district renaming Abraham Lincoln High School because black lives apparently “didn’t matter” to him:
