Shocking Footage Shows Shootout Between South Carolina Police and Child Sex Crimes Fugitive

Shocking new police bodycam footage reveals a shootout between Greenville County Sheriff’s Office‘s deputies and a man wanted for child sex crimes, with 39-year old William Clayton Blackwell being shot dead in the February gunfight.

Blackwell was wanted for second and third degree criminal sexual conduct, incest and child neglect when deputies arrived at his residence in Greer, South Carolina.

One deputy saw Blackwell moving to the rear of his mobile phone when he arrived. After ordering him to drop the gun, deputies saw Blackwell wielding a rifle as he fled to the treeline behind his residence.

Police Activity obtained bodycam footage of the shooting and released it on Monday.

Blackwell took a prone position and fired at the officers with the rifle, with law enforcement in turn firing dozens of rounds at the alleged pedophile.

Blackwell later died at an area hospital.

Police shootings are exceptionally rare, and most commonly occur in situations where criminals are armed and dangerous themselves. Four deputies that fired their weapons have been placed on administrative leave, pending an internal investigation, as is standard practice for the Greenville County Sheriff’s Department and many law enforcement agencies throughout the country.
