The Biden Administration is Directing immigrant Judges to No Longer Use the Term “Illegal Alien”
In the latest act of political correctness, the Biden administration has now issued a memo calling on immigration judges to to stop using the term “illegal aliens” to describe interlopers who enter the US illegally.
The memo was released on July 23, 2021 and titled “Terminology,” Acting Director of the Executive Office for Immigration Review Jean King has instructed immigration judges to use terms such as “undocumented noncitizen” and “undocumented individual” instead.
In addition, King has also instructed judges to no longer use the term “unaccompanied alien child” and instead called on them to use terms such as “unaccompanied non-citizen child” and “unaccompanied non-U.S. citizen child.”
Ivan Pentchoukov of The Epoch Times noted that ”The memo references a pair of President Joe Biden’s executive orders and notes that neither uses the term “alien” or “illegal alien” to describe illegal aliens.”
The memo also referenced two recent Supreme Court opinions where justices used the term “noncitizen” instead of the statutory term “alien.”
Pentchoukov added:
The memo’s footnotes also reference the 2013 style-guide change by The Associated Press, which forbids the use of terms such as ‘illegal alien,’ ‘an illegal,’ ‘illegals,’ and ‘undocumented.’ It also points to a 2016 decision by the Library of Congress to stop using the term ‘illegal alien.‘
“The phrase ‘illegal aliens’ has taken on a pejorative tone in recent years, and in response, some institutions have determined that they will cease to use it,” the Library of Congress decision stated. “After deliberation, the meeting participants determined that the heading Aliens will be revised to Noncitizens.”
Andrew Arthur, who previously served as an immigration judge and is currently a resident fellow at the Center for Immigration Studies, believes that King’s new order established an “extremely sinister precedent.”
“None of these changes has any basis in law (or logic for what that matters),” Arthur declared. “‘Noncitizen’ is not a word, at least not in a legal sense, because it includes ‘aliens’ who can be removed from the United States and non-citizen ‘nationals’ who cannot.”
According to reports from The Washington Post and Axios, staff at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) have already been prohibited from using the term “illegal alien.”
Overall, the Biden administration’s move to disuse the term “illegal alien” shows the degree of political correctness that’s embedded in this government. In addition, this represents another ploy to keep illegal aliens inside the country and ultimately expand the Democrat’s voter base. Since Democrats are having trouble passing their amnesty proposals through conventional legislative means, they’re using every trick in the book to see their demographic replacement agenda through.
