The Majority of Voters Believe the DOJ is Politicized

According to a Rasmussen poll, the majority of American voters believe that the Department of Justice’s investigation of former President Donald Trump is politically motivated. Though a significant portion of them still approve the investigation.

The Rasmussen poll found that 54% of likely voters support the investigation of Trump over his alleged “mishandling” of presidential documents, which includes 44% who strongly approve.

41% disapprove, which includes 32% who strongly disapprove of the investigation.

60% of voters believe it’s likely the DOJ’s investigation of Trump is politicized, which includes 46% who believe it’s very likely. 36% don’t believe the DOJ’s investigation of Trump was politically motivated.

Earlier in August, California Congressman Kevin McCarthy declared on Twitter:

The Department of Justice has reached an intolerable state of politicization.

57% of voters agree, which includes 41% who strongly agree. 35% are in disagreement with McCarthy’s statement, which includes 24% who strongly disagree.

The DOJ’s investigation of Trump is largely divided on partisan lines.

80% of Democratic voters back the investigation, which includes 69% who strongly approve. 68% of Republicans are against the investigation, which includes 53% who strongly disapprove. For independent voters, 52% approve and 42% disapprove of the DOJ’s investigation of Trump.

78% of Republicans believe it’s likely the DOJ’s investigation of Trump is a politicized affair, which includes 68% who believe it’s very likely politically motivated. 43% of Democratic voters think it’s somewhat likely the Trump investigation is politically motivated. Though a majority (52%) of Democrats believe it’s unlikely that the DOJ’ s investigation of Trump is politicized.

Among independent voters, 62% believe it’s likely the DOJ’s investigation of Trump is politically motivated, while 33% believe it’s unlikely. Republicans (76%) are more likely to agree with McCarthy’s statement — “The Department of Justice has reached an intolerable state of politicization”— than Democrats (39%) or independent voters (55%)..”

58% of black voters are strongly in favor of the DOJ’s investigation of Trump. 42% of whites and 40% of other non-white minorities. As far as the races are concerned, 50% of white voters, 31% of black voters, and 43% of other non-white minorities believe it is very likely the investigation of Trump is politically motivated.

50% of government employees and 39% of private sector workers strongly approve of the Trump investigation.

Those making $200,000 annually are more supportive of the Trump investigation than individuals making between $30,000 and $50,000.

The DOJ’s politicization is apparent to anyone with a functioning pair of eyes. It’s an institution that’s hostile to Middle American values and treats them like Middle Eastern terrorists. Reforming these institutions is not enough. The DOJ needs to be put on a strict diet.

What policing roles the federal government has usurped must be returned to the states. Any Republican who doesn’t grasp this in 2022 and beyond, should not be taken seriously and not be allowed to assume office.
