WATCH: “This Was a Protest, Not an Insurrection:” Ashli Babbit Mother’s Speaks On Tragic Anniversary of Daughter’s Death
The mother of Ashli Babbit, an Air Force veteran who was shot by Capitol Police officer Michael Byrd during last year’s chaotic protest and riot, is speaking out.
Reporter Brendan Gutenschwager was on the scene of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s press conference, in which the conservative congresswoman spoke with Rep. Matt Gaetz to give a Republican response to the series of Democrat contrived commemorations of the event. At the event, Babbit’s mother rejected accusations that the Jan. 6th event was an “insurrection,” instead likening it to a protest.
Babbit’s mother remembered her daughter as a proud American patriot, invoking Babbit’s 14 years of service in the US Air Force. Babbit’s mother also accused Byrd of murder, questioning the highly unusual manner in which the Capitol Police officer shot and killed the unarmed protestor for breaking a window.
“Americans have the right to protest. It’s your right as a citizen to protest.”
The potential of criminal charges against Byrd was spiked following a lengthy investigation, with critics of the Capitol Police’s actions left questioning what protocols deemed it acceptable for Byrd to fire his weapon at unarmed protestors who were generally non-violent.
Babbit’s mother has called for surveillance camera footage of the Capitol on January 6th to be released, with the US Congress seemingly exempt from freedom of information laws that citizens could use to obtain surveillance camera footage. Hundreds of people who were present at the scene of the January 6th riot are still detained as de facto political prisons in the Washington, DC jail system, many of whom on charges of non-violent misdemeanor crimes that progressives routinely excuse for leftist Black Lives Matter and ANTIFA rioters.
