Tom Fitton, the president of watchdog group Judicial Watch, Monday called for Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation to be shut down over his lack of constitutional supervision and overreaching investigations.

Following news of Paul Manafort, who briefly served as President Donald J. Trump’s campaign chairman, being indicted on a range of charges from tax fraud to violations of the Foreign Agent Registration Act, Fitton Tweeted: “Shut it down.”

“Mortgage fraud. FARA registration issues. Dozens of federal prosecutors and FBI agents, etc.  Mueller operation out of control.Shut it down,” he Tweeted.

The indictments of Manafort and his associate Rick Gates do not mention Trump or any accusations of election meddling.

Trump fired Manafort as his campaign chairman in August 2016, shortly after the Republican National Convention, and after it was reported that he had accepted $12 million in undisclosed payments from former Ukrainian president Viktor F. Yanukovych.

In Judicial Watch’s weekly address on Friday, Fitton had also raised the issue of the investigation lacking constitutional supervision.

“Mueller is not subject to appropriate supervision from Constitutional officers in the US Justice Department. Essentially he has been allowed to come in and nobody is supervising him. That is not the way it works in a Republic,” Fitton said.

Fitton also raised the issue of Fusion GPS and the Uranium One deal which shows Russian collusion from the Democrats.

“There’s no evidence that Donald Trump colluded with Russia in trying to beat Hillary,” he said. “There is evidence now that Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee were colluding with Russians to try to destroy Donald Trump. Not only that, but the FBI was also using the same firm that Hillary Clinton was paying.”

Meanwhile, no evidence has surfaced of the Trump campaign colluding with Russians, despite the hysteria.

Fitton said no matter how “politically explosive” it may be, Trump should shut down the Mueller investigation.
